Mohbad: Court-Supervised DNA Test Conducted On Late Singer’s Remains, Son Liam

The exercise took place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, under court supervision as part of efforts to establish whether the late singer was Liam’s biological father.

The sample collection followed an application by Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, requesting a court-monitored DNA test. The court approved the request and appointed a welfare officer to oversee the process, fixing October 31 for the exercise.

The paternity controversy has been ongoing since Mohbad’s death in September 2023, with his father, Joseph Aloba, repeatedly questioning Liam’s biological relationship with the singer and demanding a DNA test. However, legal proceedings connected to his request had suffered several delays.

The exercise was conducted under tight security, with security personnel deployed to prevent possible disturbances at the locations. The arrangements followed concerns over potential protests after Joseph reportedly called on his online supporters to show solidarity, while some social media users also suggested staging demonstrations.

Mohbad’s mother, Abosede; younger brother, Adura; and wife, Omowunmi, were present during the proceedings.

The exercise reportedly became emotional for the family, particularly when the singer’s remains were identified as part of the procedure.

Samples were obtained from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Yaba, Lagos.

The collected materials were subsequently transported under heavy security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where samples were also taken from Liam for forensic analysis.

Speaking after the exercise, the lawyer representing Omowunmi, Barrister Kabiru, said there was no confirmed date for the release of the DNA results.

He explained that the parties involved would receive notification through the court once the outcome of the examination was ready.

The lawyer also commended the court and the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism and effective coordination, which ensured that the exercise was completed successfully under adequate security.

The DNA test represents a major step in the prolonged dispute, which has generated widespread reactions and debates on social media since Mohbad’s death in 2023.

The outcome of the forensic examination is expected to provide scientific evidence that could help the court determine Liam’s paternity and bring clarity to the controversy.
