Mariga Breaks Silence After FKF Expulsion, Accuses Officials of Denying Him Chance to Defend Himself

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga has broken his silence following his expulsion from office, questioning the legality of the decision and accusing federation officials of denying him a fair hearing.

Mariga, who was expelled alongside FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) member Dan Shikanda, termed the decision illegal, arguing that the process leading to their removal was conducted without following proper procedures.

The two leaders claimed they were denied an opportunity to attend the Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Meru, where their expulsion was among the key decisions made by delegates.

According to Mariga and Shikanda, they were not given an opportunity to appear before the meeting, respond to the accusations against them or present their side of the story before the decision was reached.

Their objections have raised fresh questions about the manner in which the federation handled the disciplinary process and whether the meeting adhered to the requirements of its constitution.

The expulsion came during a period of heightened divisions within FKF, with rival factions engaged in disagreements over the federation’s leadership and administration.

The Meru meeting was also disrupted by chaos after a group of individuals reportedly stormed the venue, prompting police officers to use teargas to disperse the crowd.

Mariga’s removal marks a significant development in the ongoing leadership struggles within Kenyan football, particularly given his position as one of the prominent figures in the federation’s administration.

The former Harambee Stars striker is now challenging the circumstances surrounding his ouster, with the dispute threatening to deepen divisions within the country’s football governing body.

The controversy is likely to attract further attention as stakeholders await the next steps from the affected officials and the federation.

At the centre of the dispute is whether the process used to remove the two NEC members met the standards of fairness and accountability expected in the management of Kenyan football.
