You know the silly season is in overdrive when Hlaudi Motsoeneng resurfaces from the hinterlands of the Free State. He spewed gobbledygook at a campaign rally of his African Content Movement in his hometown of QwaQwa on the eve of the elections. Anyone who votes for the ANC must commit suicide, he suggested. “My QwaQwa people, if you dare vote ANC, grab a gun, point it at yourself, shoot and kill yourself,” he said. “If you are a right-thinking QwaQwa resident who prioritises their own future, there’s no way you will vote for the government of oppressors.”
He went on to say he was obviously qualified to turn QwaQwa around — just look at his track record at the SABC. Um, the very SABC that successfully sued him over his looting of R11m as a questionable “success fee”. Mamparahlaudi then claimed his ACM’s “90% content philosophy” would deliver services such as jobs and clinics. The people of QwaQwa are in for a long circus after this clown’s party emerged as the second biggest in the Maluti-a-Phofung local council — trailing the party whose supporters failed to commit mass suicide.
