Mahama Bows and Kneels Before Yagbonwura at 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival

According to a report by GhanaWeb on Saturday November 7, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama attracted attention at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Za Festival after kneeling and bowing while greeting the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.

The gesture took place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, when the President arrived at the durbar grounds in Anloga in the Volta Region.

The Yagbonwura, who attended the celebration as Special Guest of Honour, was among the traditional leaders present at the event.

The Gonja Overlord’s participation in this year’s festival is considered a historic development, as it is reportedly the first time a reigning Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom has attended the Hogbetsotso celebration.

His invitation was extended by the Overlord of the Anlo Kingdom, Togbui Sri III, also known as Torgbui Adzongaga Amenya Fiti III, as part of efforts to deepen cultural ties and promote cooperation between the two traditional authorities.

The 2026 Hogbetsotso Za Festival was celebrated under the theme Anlo: Our Heritage and Our Values, Striving to Build One Ghana.
