Mahama Announces 100 New Ambulances and Plans to Restore 100 Broken-Down Vehicles
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is procuring 100 new ambulances to strengthen the fleet of the National Ambulance Service and improve emergency medical response across Ghana.
The President disclosed that the procurement forms part of efforts to restock the ambulance fleet and ensure that emergency medical services have the vehicles needed to respond to calls and transport patients to health facilities.
Mahama also revealed that approximately 100 ambulances that are currently broken down could be restored to service if the necessary spare parts are acquired.
His announcement highlights the government’s intention to address challenges affecting the availability of ambulances and improve the country’s emergency healthcare delivery system.
The National Ambulance Service plays an important role in Ghana’s healthcare sector by providing emergency medical assistance, responding to accident scenes and transporting patients who require urgent medical attention.
However, the availability and condition of ambulances are essential to ensuring that the service can respond effectively, particularly in situations where delays could affect patients’ chances of receiving timely treatment.
The planned procurement of 100 new ambulances is therefore expected to provide additional vehicles for the service and help improve its operational capacity.
The President’s comments about the 100 broken-down ambulances also point to the possibility of increasing the fleet without relying entirely on new purchases. According to him, the vehicles could return to active service once the required spare parts are obtained.
Restoring the damaged ambulances could help reduce pressure on the existing fleet and ensure that more communities have access to emergency transportation when needed.
The announcement comes as the government continues to outline measures aimed at strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system through improved infrastructure, equipment and emergency response services.
Attention will now be on the procurement process for the 100 new ambulances and efforts to obtain the spare parts needed to repair the existing vehicles.
