Maame Gold Reveals Why She Spent 32 Years Abroad Before Returning To Ghana With Money
According to a report by Ghbase News on Saturday November 7, 2026, Ghanaian personality Maame Gold has opened up about her 32-year stay abroad, revealing that her decision to relocate overseas was largely driven by her desire to secure her financial future, raise her children and eventually return to Ghana to settle down.
The Ghanaian woman made the revelation during an interview on Onua TV, where she shared details of her life abroad, the jobs she undertook to survive, her upbringing and the reasons behind her eventual return to her home country.
According to Maame Gold, she travelled abroad alone after completing Form Five in Ghana and spent more than three decades working towards her long-term ambition of returning home financially prepared.
She disclosed that life overseas required hard work and determination, as she took up different jobs, including working at McDonald’s, Burger King and in the cleaning sector.
Alongside these jobs, she also enrolled in short courses to acquire additional skills and improve her chances of securing better employment opportunities.
Despite spending several years outside Ghana, Maame Gold insisted that her love for the country never diminished. She explained that returning home had always been part of her plans, and even her friends abroad were aware of her intention to eventually relocate to Ghana.
“I love Ghana. Even while I was there, my friends knew I wanted to come back to Ghana, so everything I was doing, I was doing it towards coming back to Ghana,” she said.
Maame Gold also dismissed suggestions that she came from a poor background, explaining that she enjoyed a comfortable childhood because her parents ensured that she had everything she needed while growing up.
She admitted that she did not fully appreciate her father’s financial circumstances during her childhood because her needs were consistently taken care of.
“If I say I struggled from the beginning, I’d be a liar. Then I am not grateful to God and my parents. I grew up before realising my dad wasn’t even rich because I was getting everything I needed growing up,” she explained.
She further disclosed that her decision to return to Ghana was not rushed, as she wanted to put certain important things in place before making the move.
These included sorting out her documentation, raising her children and accumulating enough savings to establish herself financially after returning home.
Having spent 32 years abroad, Maame Gold said she was determined not to return empty-handed, revealing that she had managed to save a substantial amount of money through her years of hard work.
“I came prepared. I came back with a lot of money. I stayed abroad for 32 years. Those times are not like today, I made some money back,” she said.
Beyond discussing her financial journey, Maame Gold also explained why she has developed a strong commitment to supporting people who need assistance.
She said she does not believe in accumulating enormous wealth while people around her struggle to afford their basic necessities, stressing that financial success should also create opportunities to improve the lives of others.
“I don’t want to see my account so huge while someone else is going hungry. I may be hailed today because I have something to offer, but I might not be like that forever. One day when I need help, I don’t know who will come through for me,” she stated.
Maame Gold further revealed that she had been assisting several individuals privately since returning to Ghana, long before her charitable activities became visible on social media.
She explained that her decision to begin documenting some of her philanthropic efforts was influenced by criticism she received during the funeral arrangements for her late father.
According to her, she felt her father deserved a befitting funeral and was disappointed by some of the comments people made about the event.
The experience motivated her to make her charitable activities more visible so that the public would understand that helping others was not something she had recently started doing.
“I have done a lot for people since I got back to Ghana that were not caught on camera, but when I was burying my father, people were saying a lot about it.
I felt my father deserved that, so I started putting cameras on what I do for others so people would know this is what I do,” she added.
Her revelations have offered a glimpse into the journey behind her return to Ghana, highlighting the sacrifices, financial planning and personal ambitions that shaped her 32 years abroad.
Maame Gold’s account also underscores her belief that wealth should not only be measured by the money accumulated in one’s bank account but also by the positive impact made in the lives of people who need support.
