Ledwaba’s Kindness Drive aims to make a difference in Thembisa

My name is Tshepang Ledwaba. I am a young, ambitious individual who believes in making a difference, inspiring others and giving back to the community.

I am passionate about community development, charity work and modelling, and I am proud to belong to a community with so much potential.

Some of my favourite memories of Thembisa are the simple moments spent in the community, the friendships formed and the laughter shared.

Growing up here has taught me the importance of belonging, togetherness and appreciating the little things in life. What I love most about Thembisa is its people.

There is so much talent here, and something special about the way people come together, support one another and find ways to overcome challenges.

Thembisa is filled with people who have dreams, stories and the potential to change the world.

You do not always need to go somewhere fancy to have a good time. Some of my favourite experiences come from spending time with friends, exploring local businesses, enjoying good food and appreciating the atmosphere around me. As they say, local is lekker!

One of my most meaningful experiences has been discovering how much of a difference one person can make in their community.

Through my involvement in community initiatives and my journey with Ledwaba’s Kindness Drive, I have realised that you do not need to have everything figured out or have a lot of resources to make a difference. Sometimes, all it takes is a willing heart and the courage to start.

This has changed how I view leadership and my responsibility towards others.

One of the biggest challenges facing Thembisa is the lack of opportunities for young people, particularly unemployment.

There is so much talent in our community, but not everyone gets the chance to showcase it.

I believe this can improve through youth empowerment programmes, community partnerships and platforms where young people can express themselves, develop their skills and grow.

I am inspired by ordinary people who do good without expecting recognition. I admire community builders, young entrepreneurs, teachers, volunteers and individuals who continue to contribute positively despite their circumstances. They remind me that making a difference does not require a title, but action.

I would describe Thembisa as a home that is resilient and vibrant.

Something people might not know about me is that I have a strong passion for bringing people together for a meaningful cause. I am the founder of Ledwaba’s Kindness Drive, an initiative focused on donating clothing and sanitary towels to underprivileged individuals. I enjoy turning ideas into reality and creating opportunities to make someone’s life a little better.

If I could change something in Thembisa, I would create more opportunities for young people, especially young girls. I would love to see a community where young people have access to mentorship, education, employment opportunities and platforms that allow them to discover and develop their talents.

I also want to see a community where no girl has to miss school because she cannot afford sanitary products, and where people are always willing to lend a helping hand.

The best advice I have received was to never forget where I come from, remain humble and never allow my circumstances to determine how far I can go. Interestingly, this advice came from an Uber driver who dropped me off at an orphanage where I had gone to make a donation.

His words taught me that success is not only about how far you go, but also about how many people you uplift along the way.

To me, home is where your story begins, where you find a sense of belonging and where you learn lessons that shape your character. Thembisa is a place that can either break you or shape you for the better; it all depends on knowing what you want and the choices you make.

It is where my roots are, where my dreams continue to grow and where I hope to make a lasting impact. No matter how far life takes me, I will always carry a piece of Thembisa with me.
