KRA Puts Thousands Of Unclaimed Goods Up For Auction As Owners Get 30 Days To Collect Them

The Kenya Revenue Authority has announced plans to auction thousands of goods held at the Naivasha Inland Container Depot and other customs warehouses. The owners failed to collect them within the required period.

In a notice published on Friday the authority listed 1,472 packages of mineral fibre ceiling materials and ceiling grids at the Naivasha depot. It warned that the consignment would be treated as abandoned unless the goods are entered and removed within 30 days.

The public auction is scheduled for December 28 to 31. Interested buyers will place their bids through the online auction platform of the authority.

At the Eldoret Customs Warehouse several consignments of ethanol are listed. One batch has 54 drums with each drum holding 250 litres. Other batches of 125 and 32 and 35 and 32 drums are also set to go under the hammer.

The Eldoret International Airport Customs Warehouse holds 430 used smartphones and 40 additional smartphones. There are also five laptops and a piano. The list further includes 49 Plantronics Blackwire earphones and 320 assorted perfumes.

At the Nakuru Customs Warehouse the taxman listed 927 cartons of modern tiles and 125 bags of sugar. Owners who fail to collect them in time will lose them.

The Lodwar Customs Station Warehouse holds 665 empty beer crates across four consignments. Some of them have been there since April 2022.

Prospective buyers can inspect the goods on December 23 and 24 during official working hours.

Under Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act the authority can auction goods left uncollected after a 30-day notice. It can also sell goods whose owners fail to pay import duties and taxes. Perishable goods and animals can be sold without waiting for the usual notice period.
