Kisumu Mother Who Lost First Baby Welcomes Triplets After Nearly Two Months in Hospital
A 22 year old mother from Kisumu has welcomed three newborn babies after a high risk pregnancy that kept her under hospital care for nearly two months.
Rael Awino Kaiga’s experience has been particularly emotional because she had previously suffered the loss of her first baby. This time, however, she was able to leave hospital with three children: two boys and a girl.
According to a report by TUKO, Rael was admitted to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on September 14, 2026, at 31 weeks of pregnancy after developing signs of premature labour.
Carrying triplets presented additional medical risks, prompting doctors to closely monitor her condition and take steps to prevent an early delivery.
The medical team initiated a treatment known as tocolysis, which involves using medication to suppress uterine contractions and slow down labour.
The intervention allowed Rael’s pregnancy to continue for almost another month, giving the babies additional time to develop before birth.
When she reached 34 weeks, doctors performed a planned Caesarean section, successfully delivering all three babies.
However, their medical journey was not yet over. Since they were born prematurely, the newborns were transferred to JOOTRH’s Newborn Unit, where they received specialised care as medical staff monitored their progress.
According to the hospital’s account cited in the TUKO report, the babies gradually improved and were eventually cleared for discharge.
The discharge of the three newborns was followed by Rael’s own discharge from the maternity ward, bringing an end to nearly two months of hospital care.
For the young mother, going home with all three babies was a particularly meaningful experience following the loss of her first child.
Rael expressed gratitude to God for the safe arrival of her newborns and thanked the healthcare professionals who supported her throughout the pregnancy, delivery and the babies’ stay in hospital.
Her partner, Elijah Odhiambo Ombora, also praised the hospital staff for their dedication and the care they provided to his family.
With the mother and all three babies discharged, Rael and Elijah are now preparing for the demands of raising triplets.
The couple appealed to well wishers and members of the public for support as they begin this new chapter of their lives.
Caring for three newborns at the same time comes with significant responsibilities, including providing for their feeding, clothing, healthcare and other essential needs.
Despite the difficult journey, Rael’s homecoming marks a welcome outcome for a family that has experienced the pain of losing a child and the uncertainty of a high risk pregnancy.
