Kenyan Shilling Holds Firm Against US Dollar as Pound, Euro Gain – CBK

The Kenyan shilling has maintained its position against the United States dollar, even as the British pound and the euro strengthened against the local currency, according to the latest figures released by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Data from the CBK weekly bulletin released on November 6, 2026, showed that the shilling exchanged at KSh129.96 against the US dollar on November 5, unchanged from the rate recorded on October 29.

The performance leaves the Kenyan currency just KSh0.04 below the KSh130 mark, a level closely monitored in the country’s foreign exchange market.

However, the local currency weakened against the British pound, which rose to KSh175.18 from KSh173.04 recorded a week earlier.

The euro also gained against the shilling, climbing to KSh146.27 from KSh144.78 over the same period.

The movements mean Kenyans purchasing British pounds and euros will require more shillings compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, commercial banks quoted the US dollar at between KSh129.85 and KSh130.05 on Friday, reflecting relatively limited movement in the exchange rate.

The CBK also reported that Kenya’s foreign exchange reserves stood at approximately KSh1.91 trillion, equivalent to USD14.699 billion, as of November 5, representing 5.9 months of import cover.

The reserves provide a financial buffer that helps the country meet external payment obligations and manage potential pressure on the local currency.

The latest figures highlight the shilling’s continued stability against the dollar despite mixed performance against other major international currencies.
