Javits Frimpong’s Death: Martin Kpebu Makes Fresh Demand From Mahama Government

According to a report by GhanaWeb on Saturday November 7, 2026, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has supported the Ghana government’s efforts to engage the United States authorities over the death of Ghanaian national Javits Frimpong, amid renewed concerns about gun violence in the country.

Mr Kpebu urged the government to maintain diplomatic pressure on American officials to ensure that Ghana’s concerns are addressed and appropriate steps are taken in response to the incident.

Speaking on TV3’s The Keypoints, he endorsed the position taken by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Smith, noting that he shared the concerns and dissatisfaction expressed by the government and people of Ghana over the matter.

He called for sustained engagement with the American authorities, although he acknowledged that addressing gun violence in the United States would be challenging due to the country’s longstanding debate over gun ownership and the influence of powerful interest groups.

Mr Kpebu also expressed hope that the ongoing diplomatic discussions would eventually lead to compensation for the families affected by the incident.

However, he emphasised that no financial settlement could adequately make up for the loss of human life, although it could provide some relief to the bereaved families.

He further noted that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration and Ghana’s diplomatic representatives in the United States were better positioned to obtain additional information about the case and should continue pursuing an appropriate response.

Mr Kpebu maintained that the complexities surrounding gun ownership and violence in America should not discourage Ghana from seeking accountability and meaningful action over the death.

He expressed optimism that continued discussions between the two countries would help ease the suffering of the affected families while contributing to broader efforts to address gun violence.
