I dont want account to be huge while someone is going hungry – Maame gold

Maame Gold has spoken about her 32 years abroad, revealing that returning to Ghana had always been part of her long-term plan after securing her financial future and raising her children.

According to a report by Ghbase on Friday, November 6, 2026, Maame Gold made the revelation during an interview on Onua TV, where she reflected on her experiences overseas and the reasons behind her eventual return to Ghana.

She disclosed that she travelled abroad alone after completing Form Five in Ghana. During her stay, she worked in different sectors to support herself, including at popular fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s and Burger King, as well as in the cleaning industry.

Alongside her jobs, she enrolled in various short courses to acquire additional skills and improve her employment opportunities.

Despite spending more than three decades outside the country, Maame Gold said her affection for Ghana remained strong. She explained that her friends abroad knew she intended to return home and that the decisions she made during her stay were aimed at preparing for that move.

“I love Ghana. Even while I was there, my friends knew I wanted to come back to Ghana, so everything I was doing, I was doing it towards coming back to Ghana,” she stated.

She also dismissed suggestions that she grew up in poverty, expressing gratitude to her parents for providing her with a comfortable childhood. According to her, she only understood her father’s financial circumstances much later because her parents had ensured that her needs were met while she was growing up.

Maame Gold said she returned after raising her children, securing the necessary documentation and accumulating enough money to establish herself financially.

“I came prepared. I came back with a lot of money. I stayed abroad for 32 years. Those times are not like today, I made some money back,” she revealed.

She further discussed her charitable activities, explaining that she has supported people financially since returning to Ghana. She said she began sharing some of her philanthropic work publicly after facing criticism over the funeral arrangements for her late father, wanting to clarify that helping others had been part of her lifestyle long before she started documenting it on social media.
