How Much Have You Been Spending Per Month On Electricity Recently? – GHOne TV Asks
According to a report by GHOne TV on social media, the station asked Ghanaians how much they have been spending per month on electricity recently. The question drew many responses from people across the country, and the answers showed a wide gap in what households pay.
Some people said they spend small amounts. One user said he spends between 30 and 40 cedis a day, while another said his household buys 50 cedis of credit every three days. A third commenter said he spends about 100 cedis a week. One user, who lives in a single room, said he pays about 200 cedis.
Others reported much higher costs. One commenter said she spends 1,000 cedis a month, even though she does not use an air conditioner or many electrical appliances. Another user, who lives in a single room self-contained apartment with three bulbs, a television, a ceiling fan and a refrigerator, said he pays 1,100 cedis. One commenter said he used to spend 280 cedis a month, but now pays between 750 and 800 cedis after getting a new meter. Another said he used to spend 100 cedis in 2024 but now spends 200 cedis.
Several people said they spend between 250 and 500 cedis a month. One of them added that she is mostly out of the house.
Some commenters raised concerns about the meters and billing. One user said the bill adjustment was higher than the amount actually used. Another asked how much people paid for the meter itself, and said he paid 4,500 cedis for his. A few called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to explain the high costs to the public.
Not everyone is affected. One user said he pays nothing because he has used solar power for the past five years.
The responses show that electricity costs remain a major concern for many Ghanaians. The public is now waiting to see whether ECG will respond to the complaints.
