Grade 3 Boy Who Was Reportedly Recruited Into Becoming a Drug Dealer in KZN Has Been Discovered
An alarming case involving an eight-year-old Grade 3 pupil has emerged in KwaZulu-Natal after the boy reportedly made disturbing allegations of drug trafficking, substance abuse and sexual assault to members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
The incident was reported on Tuesday evening, 3 November 2026, in the eThekwini region. According to the child’s account, the alleged exploitation began during the second school term earlier this year.
The boy reportedly told Reaction Unit officers that a man would approach him every morning as he left home for school. The individual allegedly handed him a quantity of white powder wrapped in brown paper and instructed him to deliver it to people at three different locations.
After completing the deliveries, the child would allegedly return to the man, who would give him drugs to consume. He claimed that he received supplies twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon.
The eight-year-old also reportedly explained how he was instructed to use the substance. According to his account, the powder was placed inside a tube, which was heated before he inhaled the smoke through the other end.
However, the situation allegedly took a more disturbing turn about a week before the incident was reported. The boy claimed that the man suddenly stopped supplying him with drugs.
When he approached the individual to ask for another supply, the man allegedly took him to a nearby structure made of wood and iron. It was there that the child claimed he was physically assaulted and sexually abused.
The boy’s mother reportedly discovered the situation after his teachers raised concerns about noticeable changes in his behaviour at school. When she questioned him later that afternoon, he allegedly revealed what had been happening.
At approximately 17:50, Reaction Unit South Africa officers and paramedics were called to assist after the mother examined the child and noticed what appeared to be whip marks on his buttocks, as well as injuries around his private parts.
Further information revealed that this was not the first time Reaction Unit officers had encountered the boy. During an earlier incident, he had reportedly been found wandering around the streets without adult supervision.
On that occasion, the child allegedly told officers that he had walked from Waterloo in KwaZulu-Natal. His mother later confirmed that he had been placed under the temporary care of social workers before eventually being returned to her.
Body-camera footage recorded during the latest response reportedly captured the boy explaining the alleged drug deliveries, substance use and assault to the officers.
Reaction Unit South Africa indicated that it would involve a specialised unit within the South African Police Service (SAPS) to investigate the serious allegations and establish exactly what happened to the child.
The case has raised serious concerns about the vulnerability of children to exploitation, particularly when criminals allegedly take advantage of their young age to involve them in illegal activities.
Authorities are expected to investigate the allegations further, while the identities of those involved and the exact location have been withheld to protect the eight-year-old victim.
