Ghanaian nurse under fire for livestreaming distressed pregnant woman on TikTok at hospital
According to report by Ghanaweb on Saturday 7, November 2026, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is expected to summon a nurse next week following a controversial TikTok livestream that allegedly broadcast a pregnant woman in severe distress at a hospital. Tony Goodman, the Ministry of Health’s Public Relations Officer, stated in a Facebook post on Friday, October 6, 2026, that the Council is actively following up on the incident and will invite the nurse for further engagement.
The controversy erupted after a Facebook user named Dickson Assan reported encountering the nurse’s TikTok livestream during the early hours of the day. According to Assan, the broadcast featured a pregnant woman appearing to experience intense distress while receiving care, with the host believed to be a nurse rubbing the woman’s back while streaming the situation to online viewers.
The livestream quickly drew intense backlash. Assan noted that the broadcast attracted inappropriate comments and mockery from viewers. When one participant questioned the ethics of broadcasting a vulnerable patient’s condition, other viewers reportedly responded with insults rather than addressing the concerns. Furthermore, allegations indicate that a Mobile Money (MoMo) number was displayed during the stream to solicit financial contributions from viewers while the patient remained in distress.
This incident has ignited widespread public concern regarding patient privacy, medical ethics, and the professional conduct of healthcare workers interacting with vulnerable patients on social media.
