George police officer investigated for allegedly calling Rosedale voters baboons

A police officer in George is under investigation after a video recorded at Pacaltsdorp Police Station allegedly showed him referring to voters in Rosedale as baboons while discussing his election day duties. The clip has caused widespread outrage on social media with users accusing the officer of showing disrespect to residents and voters during the local government elections, and the South African Police Service has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the matter.

What the post does not settle is what exactly the officer said and in what context, since the post does not set out the full exchange or whether he was speaking to colleagues or members of the public. The post also does not say when the video was recorded or whether the officer has responded to the allegation. Those details matter because they would establish the basis of the investigation. Without them, the clip shows only his remarks, and the claim that he called voters baboons remains an allegation under investigation.

People reacting to the post expressed outrage, with some saying the officer’s remarks showed disrespect to residents and others calling for him to face consequences. Some said the incident reflected wider problems in the police service, while others said the investigation should establish what actually happened before conclusions were drawn.

What has not been settled is whether the officer has been suspended or whether the investigation has produced any findings. The post does not establish what prompted his remarks or whether he was on duty at the time. The public is waiting for the outcome of the police investigation, because the allegation has caused widespread outrage without any confirmation of the full circumstances.
