Former Inter Milan Star McDonald Mariga Expelled as FKF Vice President in Major Executive Purge

FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga has been expelled from the Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee following a landslide vote by general assembly delegates. The former Inter Milan midfielder was removed from office during a high-stakes legislative shakeup.

Speaking on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during the FKF Special General Meeting at the Three Steers Hotel in Meru, assembly leaders confirmed that Mariga and six other committee members were ousted for gross misconduct. The delegates overwhelmingly voted to strip the faction of their administrative powers.

In a statement issued to the press, the federation announced that 65 out of 66 delegates present supported the motion to clean up the executive committee. The dramatic session was temporarily disrupted earlier when security forces used tear gas to disperse rowdy crowds.

AFC Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani stood out as the sole delegate who voted against the ouster of the former Harambee Stars international. Ambani argued that removing the vice president and his allies would further deepen the existing leadership divisions.

The sweeping purge also claimed several top regional administrators, including Central branch chairman Robert Macharia and former Nairobi representative Dan Shikanda. Other officials shown the door included Collins Kalee, Bernard Lagat, Gabriel Mghendi, and Violet Kerubo.

The internal executive rebellion reportedly stemmed from a long-standing power struggle with FKF President Hussein Mohammed over the management of local football. Delegates claimed the continuous infighting had severely paralyzed the development of the sport across the country.

Official observers from the global football governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football monitored the voting process to verify constitutional compliance. The federation will now initiate the process of appointing an interim committee to fill the vacant slots.
