FKF in Turmoil as McDonald Mariga and Six NEC Members Are Expelled

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is facing a major leadership crisis after Vice President McDonald Mariga and six other members of the National Executive Committee were reportedly removed from their positions.

The decision was made during a Special General Meeting held in Meru on Saturday. FKF delegates voted on several resolutions that led to the removal of seven NEC officials. The move is expected to change the leadership structure of Kenyan football and could lead to a fresh battle for important positions in the federation.

McDonald Mariga, a former Harambee Stars player, was removed as FKF Vice President and also lost his membership in the NEC. His removal marks a major change for the former footballer, who moved from the playing field into football administration.

The other officials who were expelled are Violet Kerubo Momanyi, the Women’s Representative; Collins Kalee, the Nyanza Region NEC Representative; Gabriel Mghendi, the Coast Region NEC Representative; Robert Macharia, the Central Region NEC Representative; Dan Shikanda, the Nairobi Region NEC Representative; and Benard Korir Lagat, the Rift Valley Region NEC Representative.

The seven officials represented different regions and groups within Kenyan football. Their removal means that several areas of the country may need new representatives in the federation’s leadership.

Reports indicate that the resolutions received strong support from FKF delegates. A total of 65 members reportedly voted in favour of removing the NEC officials. Boniface Ambani, the chairman of AFC Leopards, was said to be the only delegate who voted against the decision.

The large vote in favour of the removal shows the level of support for the changes among the delegates who attended the meeting. However, the reasons behind the decision and the full details of the resolutions may require further clarification from FKF and the affected officials.

The Congress also resolved that the seven officials could face further disciplinary action. Such action may come from the judicial bodies of FKF, the Confederation of African Football, commonly known as CAF, and FIFA, the world football governing body.
