DJ Cuppy Says She Is No Longer Defined By Pink, Embraces Evolving Personal Style
Nigerian DJ and entertainer Florence Otedola, popularly known as Cuppy, has explained why she is moving beyond pink, the colour that became synonymous with her public identity for many years.
Cuppy, who was interviewed by ‘GQ Poland’, spoke about her evolving fashion choices. She said style was a form of expression that naturally changes with personal growth, adding that she no longer wants to be defined by a single colour.
“For me, style is about expression, and expression always changes. I was known for the colour pink, and it was my identity for so many years,” she said.
Addressing questions about her apparent departure from the signature colour, the DJ explained that while pink remains significant to her, she can now communicate the same values through other colours.
She described pink as a representation of power, vibrancy, unapologetic self-expression and personal identity, noting that those qualities remain part of who she is.
Cuppy also linked her fashion evolution to her experience as a woman navigating the male-dominated music industry.
Reflecting on her early career, she said pink had helped her express her femininity and establish her presence in an industry where women often have to fight for recognition.
“When I first started 17 years ago, I was a young girl who was using pink to represent her femininity and stay in the room,” she said.
However, having navigated the industry and broken through several barriers, she believes she can now express her femininity without being restricted to a particular colour.
Describing her current style, Cuppy said it was “vibrant, grounded, and ethnic”, reflecting her personality and evolving sense of identity.
