DA Maintains Lead in Tshwane as ActionSA and ANC Battle for Second Place

The Democratic Alliance (DA) continues to lead in the City of Tshwane as the counting of votes in South Africa’s 2026 Local Government Elections progresses. However, ActionSA and the African National Congress (ANC) are engaged in a tight race for second place.

According to the latest results released at 18:35, approximately 82% of the votes have been counted, with the DA currently holding the largest share at 32.72%.

ActionSA is in second position with 22.87%, while the ANC follows closely behind with 21.37%. The narrow gap between the two parties means the contest for second place remains open as election officials continue processing the outstanding ballots.

The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) occupies fourth position with 6.99% of the vote, followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), which has received 6.01%.

Meanwhile, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has secured 2.11% of the votes counted so far.

The latest figures highlight a competitive political environment in Tshwane, where the DA has established a noticeable lead, while ActionSA is currently ahead of the ANC in the race for second place.

However, with approximately 18% of the votes yet to be counted, the standings could still change. The final outcome is also expected to play an important role in determining possible coalition arrangements and which parties could work together to govern the city.
