The FKF Premier League enters another important weekend on Saturday, with three matches offering very different battles at both ends of the table.

The day’s main attraction will be in Embu, where 3K FC will host AFC Leopards at Moi Stadium from 4:15 pm in a meeting that pits one of the league’s newest sides against one of its traditional giants.

For 3K, the occasion represents more than another league fixture. Playing their first season in the top flight, the Embu-based side will face Leopards for the first time, with their growing fan base set for one of the biggest football occasions the club has staged.

3K have already shown they can compete at this level. They have collected eight points from their opening five matches and go into the encounter on the back of a 2-1 comeback victory over Posta Rangers. That result moved them to fifth, just one point behind Leopards.

AFC, meanwhile, will arrive with renewed confidence after ending a run of draws with a 2-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in the Ingo Derby.

Fred Ambani’s side currently occupy third place with nine points and will see the trip to Embu as an opportunity to keep pace with the teams above them.

The Leopards coach has warned his players against taking 3K lightly, particularly after the hosts’ encouraging start to life in the top flight.

The match will also bring together two players with strong connections to Ingwe. Former AFC captain Robinson Kamura will face his former club while 3K captain Daniel Wanjala, a lifelong Leopards admirer, will lead the home side against the team he has long supported.

The fixture has also generated plenty of attention away from the pitch, with the two clubs exchanging banter during the build-up. The real contest, however, will begin when the two sides meet in Embu. Mombasa United desperate for first win Earlier in the day, Mombasa United will have another opportunity to end their difficult opening to the season when they host Shabana at KPA Sports Club, Mbaraki, from 2:00 pm.

The newly promoted side are bottom of the table with just one point from five matches and are still searching for their first victory.

Their situation makes Saturday’s home fixture particularly important as they look to turn promising moments into results.

Shabana also arrive under pressure. The Glamour Boys have gone four matches without a win since opening the season with a 1-0 victory and need a positive result to prevent their early momentum from fading.

Ahmed Fathi’s side have often controlled matches without getting the points their performances have suggested they deserve.

History, however, favours Shabana. They have won all four previous meetings with Mombasa United and will be hoping that record continues at Mbaraki. Mara Sugar, Migori renew rivalry The third match will see Mara Sugar host Migori Youth at William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok from 3:00 pm.

The two sides go into the match level on six points, making the encounter an opportunity for either team to move closer to the top four.

The fixture also carries a local rivalry element after Mara Sugar previously used Awendo Green Stadium, the home ground of Migori Youth, for their matches.

Mara have since shifted their home games to Narok, but the rivalry between the two sides remains.

Both teams will therefore see Saturday’s meeting as an opportunity to claim bragging rights while strengthening their position in a tightly packed section of the table.

The three matches follow Friday’s meeting between KCB and APS Bomet, where Jimmy Owili’s 94th-minute goal gave the bankers a 1-0 victory and moved them to the top of the table on 13 points.

Gor Mahia are second on 12 points, while AFC Leopards begin Saturday in third with nine.

The pressure is therefore on the teams in action to keep pace at the top, improve their positions in mid-table or, in Mombasa United’s case, finally get their season moving.
