They should be apologising to Ghanaians – Rashid Tanko takes on NPP over cocaine lab claims
NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT Rashid Tanko has dismissed questions from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the recent drug busts, accusing the party of making claims about cocaine manufacturing facilities in Ghana and later describing them as metaphorical.
Responding to questions from Moro Awudu on Good Morning Ghana, Mr Tanko questioned why the NPP should be taken seriously on the drug-related concerns when it had yet to apologise to Ghanaians over its earlier allegations.
He was reacting to questions about the five-day period between the departure of suspects and their eventual arrest, with critics questioning whether the operation could genuinely be described as a controlled delivery.
Mr Tanko said the NPP should be addressing those questions itself rather than raising them against the government.
“Why? Is it not the same group who held a press conference and told the whole world that Ghana has labs manufacturing cocaine and other things, and later on came to tell the whole world that it’s metaphorical? You take them serious?” he asked.
He argued that the person who made the allegations had not personally withdrawn them, despite the Minority Leader’s explanation that the comments were metaphorical.
“The person who made those allegations has not come to tell us it’s a metaphor,” he said, adding that the party should apologise to Ghanaians.
Mr Tanko further questioned the NPP’s credibility, saying the same group had returned to address another press conference on the matter.
“The same group regrouped themselves yesterday and also held another press conference. Interestingly enough, it’s the same person who addressed the press conference again, and you want me to come and take them serious?” he asked.
He warned that Ghanaians should be cautious about accepting the party’s claims, describing it as a group whose earlier allegations had been dismissed as metaphorical.
“If it is coming from CPP or other people, we might take them serious, but this metaphorical group, you follow them at the peril of your own,” he said.
