Pitso Mosimane Plans Personal Visits to PSL Clubs to Strengthen Relationships With Coaches
Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has emphasised the importance of maintaining strong working relationships with Premier Soccer League (PSL) coaches, revealing plans to personally visit clubs as part of efforts to improve cooperation between the national team and domestic football structures.
Mosimane believes effective communication between national team and club coaches is essential to South Africa’s football development, particularly because several of Bafana Bafana’s key players compete in the local league.
The experienced tactician explained that club coaches play an important role in monitoring players’ performances, fitness levels, training schedules and overall development. He believes closer cooperation would help the national team make better-informed decisions when selecting players for international assignments.
The Bafana coach also indicated that he does not want his relationship with PSL coaches to be limited to telephone conversations or formal meetings. Instead, he intends to visit clubs personally to engage with their technical teams and understand their approaches to the game.
Mosimane specifically expressed agreement with the position of Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou regarding the importance of cooperation between club and national team coaches.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions about the relationship between national team responsibilities and the demands placed on players by their respective clubs.
The issue has previously attracted attention in South African football, with former Bafana coach Hugo Broos occasionally expressing concerns about difficulties in securing cooperation from some club coaches.
Mosimane appears determined to establish a different approach by building trust and maintaining regular communication with the country’s leading clubs.
The coach’s intention is also to ensure that players are properly managed during international camps, particularly when they are returning from injuries or facing demanding domestic schedules.
His approach could benefit both Bafana Bafana and PSL clubs by reducing misunderstandings over player availability, workload management and selection decisions.
With South Africa preparing for its upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Kenya, Mosimane will be hoping that stronger relationships with club coaches translate into improved performances and greater stability within the national team.
Five Orlando Pirates players have been included in his latest 27-man squad, highlighting the importance of maintaining a productive relationship with the Buccaneers and other leading PSL sides.
