No proxy voting, strict 7am to 5pm schedule – NDC outlines measures for Northern elections

Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Tanko Rashid Computer, says the party has introduced strict electoral protocols and placed security arrangements under the police-led National Election Security Task Force to prevent disturbances during its upcoming regional elections.

His comments come amid preparations for the NDC’s Northern Regional elections, with the Northern Regional Police Command reportedly set to deploy 400 personnel to maintain security and law and order during the exercise.

Speaking on the party’s preparations, Mr Rashid Computer said the NDC had already briefed its regional election committees and engaged aspirants, candidates and their supporters on the rules governing the elections.

He explained that proxy voting would not be permitted and that the party would strictly observe the Electoral Commission’s prescribed voting hours.

“We are not going to exercise any proxy voting in this election. We are going to go strictly by the Electoral Commission dictate, starting from 7:00 in the morning and ending by 5,” he said.

He added that the party had entrusted election security to the National Election Security Task Force, which is headed by the police.

“We are also deferring the security of the election to the National Election Security Task Force headed by the police. I mean, so they are handling the issue of security,” he stated.

Mr Rashid Computer further warned that only accredited members would be allowed onto the conference grounds, stressing that unauthorised persons would face action from security personnel.

“If you are not an accredited member to the conference, you have no business coming to the conference ground. Otherwise, you will have problems with the security,” he cautioned.
