Kennedy Agyapong’s Team Dismisses NPP Resignation Rumours, Reaffirms Party Membership

The political team of former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has dismissed reports suggesting that the outspoken politician has resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The clarification follows the circulation of social media reports claiming that Mr Agyapong had formally submitted a resignation letter to the party’s leadership.

According to a report published by Modern Ghana on October 16, 2026, Kwasi Kwarteng, a former spokesperson for Mr Agyapong’s presidential campaign, rejected the allegations and described the reports as false.

Mr Kwarteng explained that the former lawmaker was in China on business and had not submitted any resignation letter to the party or its officials. He urged the public to disregard the claims.

The controversy comes amid growing public interest in Mr Agyapong’s political future following his defeat in the NPP’s presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026.

Mr Agyapong contested the election against former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured the party’s nomination to lead its campaign in the 2028 general elections.

The former Assin Central MP has remained a prominent figure within the NPP, attracting considerable attention for his outspoken political views and influence among party supporters. His relationship with the party’s leadership has also been a subject of discussion following disagreements over certain party issues.

However, the latest clarification from his team indicates that the resignation reports should not be treated as confirmed information.

Fact-checking organisation DUBAWA Ghana also investigated the viral claim and found it to be false, citing a denial from Mr Agyapong’s spokesperson.

The development highlights the importance of verifying political information before sharing it, particularly when reports concern major changes in party membership.

For now, Mr Agyapong’s team maintains that he remains a member of the NPP, despite continuing speculation about his political direction.
