“I Have No Regret Leaving The ANC, EFF, And Completely Disassociating With The MKP” Shivambu Says

Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu has defended his decision to leave the African National Congress (ANC), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and distance himself completely from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, insisting that he has no regrets about his political journey.

Shivambu made the remarks while expressing confidence in the future of his political movement, declaring that Afrika Mayibuye will eventually emerge as a leading political force in South Africa.

His comments come amid intense political discussions following the 2026 local government elections, which have exposed shifting voter preferences and growing competition among political parties.

The former EFF deputy president has experienced several major political transitions in recent years. He was previously one of the most prominent figures in the EFF, serving alongside party leader Julius Malema before his departure from the organisation.

He subsequently joined the MK Party, led by former president Jacob Zuma, where he was appointed secretary-general. However, his time in the party was also short-lived, as disagreements and political developments eventually led to his departure.

Shivambu later established the Afrika Mayibuye Movement, presenting it as a new political alternative that seeks to reshape South Africa’s political landscape.

Reflecting on his decisions, Shivambu made it clear that he does not regret walking away from the three political organisations.

“I have no regret leaving the ANC, EFF, and completely disassociating with the MK Party,” Shivambu said.

He also expressed confidence that his movement has the potential to lead the country in the future, suggesting that Afrika Mayibuye is positioning itself for a much bigger role in South African politics.

His declaration represents a bold statement from a politician whose career has been closely associated with some of the country’s most influential political organisations.

Shivambu’s confidence will undoubtedly attract attention, particularly as South Africa’s political environment continues to evolve. The emergence of new movements and the changing fortunes of established parties have created opportunities for alternative political formations to attract dissatisfied voters.

However, transforming that ambition into electoral success will require more than political declarations. Afrika Mayibuye will need to establish a strong organisational structure, attract credible leadership, build support across different provinces and convince voters that it can offer practical solutions to the country’s challenges.

His latest remarks also raise questions about his political relationship with former colleagues, particularly Julius Malema and Jacob Zuma, under whose political organisations he previously held influential positions.

For now, Shivambu appears determined to move forward without looking back, placing his confidence in the movement he hopes will eventually shape South Africa’s future.

Whether Afrika Mayibuye can fulfil that ambition remains to be seen, but Shivambu has made his position clear: he believes his biggest political chapter is still ahead of him.
