Good News for Kenyans as Health Ministry Announces Progress in Ebola Fight

Kenya has reported further progress in its fight against the Ebola outbreak after six patients recovered, with only one person remaining under medical care, according to the Ministry of Health.In a statement shared by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Friday, November 6, the ministry announced that the country had gone 18 consecutive days without recording a new infection.

The update marked Day 32 since Kenya confirmed its first imported case of the Bundibugyo virus disease on October 6, 2026.

The sixth patient, a male, was cleared for discharge after testing negative for the virus and meeting the required medical conditions.

The remaining patient continues to receive treatment and close monitoring.

The ministry maintained that the nine confirmed infections were linked to one known chain of transmission, adding that there had been no evidence of community spread.

Kenya has also made progress in monitoring people who came into contact with confirmed patients.

According to the statement, 66 contacts had completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period and returned home, while another 52 were expected to finish their monitoring by November 11.

Duale attributed the progress to coordinated efforts involving early identification of cases, isolation, treatment, contact tracing and protection of healthcare workers.The ministry explained that Kenya would only begin the 42-day countdown towards declaring the outbreak over after the last patient had been discharged from the treatment centre virus-free.

If no additional infections are detected during that period, the country can officially declare the outbreak ended.

However, the ministry cautioned Kenyans against relaxing preventive measures, noting that surveillance and other response activities would continue.
