Former ANC Members Strip Off Shirts Mid-Event, Stamp Them Into Dirt — Joining MK Party

A number of former African National Congress (ANC) members officially abandoned the ANC and its green-and-yellow shirts on Wednesday afternoon by switching to the red-and-black colours of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party). This was a momentous political occasion.

When the former ANC members undressed and trodden on the abandoned garments, the curious attendees at the political gathering were shocked. It was captured on camera by several people.

According to witnesses, fourteen individuals arrived wearing ANC clothing before changing into MK Party attire and congregating around the stage. According to sources, new party merchandise was purportedly handed just before the public presentation, raising the possibility that the move was planned in advance.

The guests’ decision was a free manifestation of their democratic rights, according to an MK Party spokesman who confirmed that they had previously filed for membership in before. The regional leadership of the ANC had not responded as of the time of publication.

Tensions between the two parties have been increasing since KwaZulu-Natal’s general elections in 2024. There have reportedly been further resignations from the ANC as a result of the MK Party’s election success.

While some regarded it as a powerful political message, others wondered if it was all just a planned spectacle.

An elderly ANC supporter is said to have peacefully watched the event while holding her party cap while the abandoned shirts lay on the ground.

Whether this is a symbolic moment or the start of a wider political movement is yet unknown. Do public defections truly impact voter loyalty, or is it merely political theatre?
