Dali Mpofu Says The Ultimate Goal Is To Remove What He Calls The “ANC Of Ramaphosa” From Government
In a strong statement to supporters, senior uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) figure Dali Mpofu has stated that the movement’s ultimate goal is to remove President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration.
Mpofu cautioned the enthusiastic audience that South Africa could not withstand another term of the “ANC of Ramaphosa.” More than just seeking reforms, negotiating coalition arrangements, or applying pressure through Parliament, he made it plain that the MK Party was hell-bent on replacing the current administration.
In his speech, he emphasized the features that, in his view, set the MK Party apart from other groups that are opposing the ANC-led administration.
The national spokesperson for the party, however, had not yet released a statement elucidating Mpofu’s remarks as of publication. Reportedly, the ANC’s communications department brushed off the comments as campaign rhetoric, arguing that the ruling party still had enough public support to overcome the challenge from the MK Party. Vincent Magwenya, spokesman for the president, chose not to provide direct commentary.
Years of legal struggles and conflicts with ANC leadership have marked Mpofu’s political career. A lot of people in the political sphere were surprised by his departure with former president Jacob Zuma.
Since the MK Party gained substantial electoral clout, they have been harshly critical of Ramaphosa on issues such as joblessness, land redistribution, and responsibility for state capture.
It is unclear whether Mpofu’s statement represents his personal political stance or the party’s official strategy. His comments, however, have stoked political tensions regarding the MK Party’s aspirations and resolve to confront the present government.
