As A Minister, I Listened To BAT Claim That He Made Buhari Pres, But I Did Not Reply To Him—Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has recalled an encounter involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, revealing why he chose not to respond to the president’s comments at the time.

Amaechi made the revelation during an interview with News Central TV on Friday, November 6, 2026, while discussing his political journey and reasons for aligning with the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Minister of Transportation explained that he was part of Buhari’s cabinet between 2015 and 2022 when Tinubu reportedly made comments claiming that he played a major role in bringing Buhari to power.

According to Amaechi, he was present as a minister when Tinubu made the statement but deliberately decided not to engage him in an argument over the claim. He stated, “As a minister, I listened to Tinubu claim that he made Buhari president, but I did not reply to him.”

The former governor also used the interview to explain his decision to join the opposition ADC, describing his involvement as part of his commitment to finding solutions to Nigeria’s growing challenges. He expressed concerns about the economic situation under Tinubu’s administration, particularly the rising cost of living, increasing fuel prices and the financial difficulties facing households and business owners.

Amaechi also argued that the removal of fuel subsidy had contributed to the economic pressure experienced by Nigerians. He maintained that his current political position was influenced by his desire to see improvements in the country’s economic and political conditions ahead of the 2027 elections.
