Aircraft that delivered over 80kg of cocaine in 2023 remains grounded at the air force base – James

According to report by Ghanaweb on Thursday 5, November 2026, Majority Leader James Agalga has questioned members of the Minority Caucus over their criticism of the government’s handling of an aircraft allegedly used to transport more than 80 kilogrammes of cocaine into Ghana in 2023.

Mr Agalga raised concerns about the Minority’s position on the matter, drawing attention to the fact that the aircraft involved in the alleged cocaine shipment remains grounded at the Air Force Base.

In challenging the Minority, the Majority Leader asked members to consider who was serving as President of Ghana when the incident occurred in 2023.

“An aircraft that delivered over 80kg of cocaine in 2023 remains grounded at the Air Force Base. Who was president in 2023?” Mr Agalga questioned.

His comments appear to have been directed at the Minority’s criticism of the government’s response to the aircraft incident, with the Majority Leader seeking to draw attention to the political administration under which the alleged drug shipment took place.

In 2023, Ghana was under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whose government was in office from January 2017 to January 2025.

The issue has brought renewed attention to questions surrounding the aircraft, the circumstances under which the alleged cocaine shipment entered the country, and the steps taken by the relevant security agencies following the incident.

Mr Agalga’s remarks have also added a political dimension to the ongoing discussion, as the Majority and Minority continue to exchange arguments over accountability and the handling of the matter.

The continued presence of the aircraft at the Air Force Base is likely to keep the issue in the public spotlight, particularly as Ghanaians seek further explanations about the investigation and the measures taken to prevent similar incidents.
