2027: Atiku, ADC Break Silence, Reveal Next Move After Court Nullifies Ticket and Sacks David Mark
According to a report by The Vanguard on Friday, November 6, 2026, the race for Aso Rock has taken a dramatic twist following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that sacked the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Justice Peter Lifu nullified all actions taken by the caretaker committee, including the party primary that produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general election.
The suit was instituted by Nafiu Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the party, who challenged the process that brought Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola to power.
Reacting swiftly, the ADC dismissed the ruling as a judicial maneuver and vowed to challenge the verdict at the Court of Appeal.
The party insisted that Mark and Aregbesola remain its authentic leaders, backed by an earlier conflicting judgment from a court of coordinate jurisdiction.
Atiku’s campaign camp also reacted, alleging a calculated plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to cripple the opposition and truncate his presidential ambition.
Speaking through his team, Atiku noted that the timing of the ruling—coming barely a day after his massive campaign rally in Sokoto—exposes a desperate strategy to weaken his growing national momentum.
Meanwhile, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo hailed the judgment as justice well served, maintaining that the Mark-led leadership hijacked the party illegally.
As legal teams head to the appellate court, political heavyweights like Peter Obi and various opposition coalitions have warned that judicial uncertainties close to an election could jeopardize Nigeria’s democratic process.
