Sakaja Breaks Silence on Joining ODM as He Reveals Why His Move Does Not Mean Abandoning Ruto

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has broken his silence over his decision to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), offering a fresh explanation of his political realignment as questions emerge over the growing movement of leaders between parties within the broad-based government.

Sakaja defended his move, maintaining that joining ODM should not be interpreted as abandoning the political arrangement he has supported since the formation of the current administration

Instead, he argued that the cooperation between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has created room for leaders to change their party affiliations without necessarily changing their political position.

Speaking about his decision, the Nairobi governor pointed out that both parties were now working together under the broad-based government led by President William Ruto.

“Now that ODM and UDA are working together under the broad-based government, with President William Ruto as the presidential candidate, there is nothing wrong with leaders moving between the parties within this arrangement,” Sakaja said.

His remarks appear to address concerns from sections of the political establishment over his decision to associate himself with ODM despite previously operating within the Kenya Kwanza political formation.

Sakaja’s explanation is particularly significant given his position as Nairobi governor, where political alliances and party affiliations could have an impact on his future political plans as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
