Police Announce Traffic Restrictions Ahead of APC Rally in Nasarawa

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Tuesday November 3, 2026, the Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversions and movement restrictions in parts of Lafia ahead of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4.

The rally will coincide with President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

The command said the event was expected to draw government officials, political leaders, dignitaries from across the country, party members and supporters to the state capital.

Nansel said security and traffic arrangements had been made to protect the President and his entourage, rally participants and the general public, and to maintain public order before, during and after the event.

He said temporary restrictions and traffic diversions would apply on designated routes, nearby roads and strategic locations across Lafia metropolis.

The measures, he said, were intended to support the movement of the presidential convoy, manage crowds and secure the rally.

Motorists and residents travelling through the designated areas may therefore face delays as officers implement the arrangements.

The command urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow instructions on the day of the rally.

Drivers were advised to use alternative routes where necessary and allow additional time for journeys around the affected parts of the city.

The rally is being held as part of the APC’s presidential campaign activities, with Tinubu expected to attend.

Nansel said the command had taken the steps to ensure the event proceeded peacefully and that movement around the venue and along the convoy route remained orderly.

The police said the arrangements would cover the period before, during and after the gathering.

Security deployments and traffic controls are commonly put in place for major political events attended by senior officials, particularly where large crowds and motorcades are expected.

In this case, the Nasarawa command said the measures were focused on designated corridors and strategic points in Lafia.

Residents and visitors were also encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activity to the authorities.
