Former Pirates Star Explains Why Club Should Not Rush Into Extending Sibisi’s Contract

Orlando Pirates have been urged to exercise patience before offering Nkosinathi Sibisi a new contract, despite growing expectations that the experienced centre-back could continue his career at the Soweto giants beyond his current deal.

A former Buccaneers player believes the club is likely to extend Sibisi’s stay at some point. However, he has cautioned the management against making a rushed decision, arguing that there is still enough time to evaluate the defender’s contribution before entering into serious negotiations.

Since arriving at Orlando Pirates, Sibisi has developed into an important member of the team’s defensive setup. His experience, composure and leadership qualities have helped him establish himself as a dependable option at the back.

The defender’s ability to communicate with fellow defenders, organise the defensive line and handle difficult situations has also made him a valuable presence within the squad. His influence extends beyond his performances on the pitch, as experienced players are often expected to provide guidance to younger teammates.

Nevertheless, the former Pirates player believes contract decisions should be approached carefully, particularly when dealing with footballers who have spent several years at the highest level.

According to this position, the club should consider several important factors, including Sibisi’s recent performances, physical condition, consistency and potential contribution to its future plans.

Waiting until later in the campaign would give the technical team and management a clearer picture of whether the defender remains suitable for the club’s long-term objectives. It would also allow Sibisi to demonstrate his importance through his performances.

Pirates have several competitions to navigate, making experienced defenders particularly valuable. Maintaining a reliable defensive department could prove essential as the club continues its pursuit of silverware.
