Bad News for Edwin Sifuna as Caleb Amisi Reveals Who He Believes Will Be the Opposition’s Flag Bearer

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has sent a message to opposition leaders seeking to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, suggesting that they should accept the possibility of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua running for president.

In a statement, Amisi argued that serious presidential aspirants within the opposition should stop assuming that Gachagua will step aside for another candidate and instead concentrate on building their own political support ahead of the election.

“I think any serious presidential opposition candidate should come to terms with the fact that Gachagua of DCP will run for president and start looking for their own votes,” Amisi stated.

His remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are increasingly positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential contest, with several prominent politicians believed to be interested in securing the coalition’s ticket.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has previously expressed his willingness to contest for the presidency, arguing that he has the political experience and nationwide support required to challenge Ruto.

The former Deputy President has also maintained that he is ready to support another candidate if the opposition settles on someone else, although he has made it clear that he expects his presidential ambitions to be taken seriously.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and other political figures, are also positioning themselves as potential contenders.

Amisi’s latest remarks could further complicate ongoing discussions about how the opposition will settle on a single presidential candidate.

The comments also highlight the growing differences over whether Gachagua should lead the opposition into the 2027 elections or support another candidate.

With the election approaching, opposition leaders face the challenge of balancing individual ambitions with their shared goal of challenging Ruto.
