40 Ghanaian Doctors Thank Okyehene for Support During Medical Training in Cuba

Forty Ghanaian medical doctors who received scholarships to study medicine in Cuba have paid a courtesy call on the Okyehene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, to express appreciation for his financial support and encouragement throughout their medical education.

The delegation, led by the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, visited the Okyeman Palace on Friday, October 30, 2026, where the newly trained doctors acknowledged the traditional ruler’s contribution to their academic journey.

The 40 beneficiaries secured scholarships to pursue medical studies in Cuba through an initiative facilitated by Dr Agyemang. The Okyehene also provided financial assistance to support the students during their training.

The doctors said the support had played an important role in helping them achieve their ambition of becoming medical professionals, describing the visit as an opportunity to recognise the generosity and commitment of the traditional ruler.

As a mark of appreciation, the delegation presented a citation of honour to Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin in recognition of his financial contribution, encouragement and investment in their future.

They also pledged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their training to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana, assuring the Okyehene of their commitment to serving the country with dedication.

In his response, the Okyehene congratulated the doctors on successfully completing their medical education and urged them to approach their professional responsibilities with diligence, integrity and compassion.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism and placing the welfare of patients at the centre of their practice.

The delegation was accompanied by executives of the Abuakwa South Constituency.

The visit highlighted the role of traditional leadership and public-private collaboration in expanding educational opportunities and developing Ghana’s human resource capacity, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare.

The return of the 40 beneficiaries as trained medical doctors marks the culmination of a scholarship journey and the beginning of their responsibility to contribute to national development through healthcare service.
