An Uber driver reportedly had a terrifying encounter with suspected hijackers in Zola 3, Soweto, Johannesburg, after allegedly being threatened with a firearm when he questioned the individuals involved in the incident.

Dashcam footage capturing the confrontation has circulated online, showing the tense moments when one of the alleged suspects, wearing a bucket hat, leaned towards the driver while holding what appeared to be a firearm.

According to information shared alongside the footage, the suspects allegedly hijacked the vehicle before the situation escalated. The driver reportedly questioned one of the individuals, an action that allegedly prompted an aggressive response from the suspect.

The situation quickly became frightening when the suspect allegedly pointed the firearm towards the driver. Reports accompanying the video claim that the Uber driver narrowly escaped being shot in the mouth during the confrontation.

The footage provides a glimpse into the frightening experience motorists and e-hailing drivers can face when confronted by suspected criminals. For drivers who spend long hours on the road, vehicle hijackings and armed robberies remain serious security concerns.

The incident has also sparked discussions about the safety of e-hailing operators, particularly those working in areas where motorists may be vulnerable to criminal activities.
