TraffiTech Launch: MTTD Issues Thousands Of Traffic Violation Tickets On First Day
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has disclosed that thousands of traffic violation tickets were issued to motorists on the first day of the official launch of the TraffiTech system.
According to a report by GHOne TV on Monday, November 2, 2026, the development marks the beginning of an intensified effort by the police to monitor motorists and enforce road traffic regulations across the country.
ACP Alexander Obeng, Director of Research, Education and Training at the MTTD, revealed the figures while discussing the commencement of the new traffic enforcement initiative.
He explained that the system had already recorded thousands of violations within its first day of official operation, indicating the level of traffic offences detected since its introduction.
Speaking about the development, ACP Obeng stated: “Today is day one of TraffiTech’s official launch, and we \[MTTD\] have already issued thousands of traffic violation tickets.”
The introduction of TraffiTech is expected to strengthen the police’s ability to identify motorists who violate traffic regulations and take appropriate enforcement measures. The technology is also intended to support traffic monitoring and improve compliance with road safety requirements.
The early issuance of thousands of tickets has drawn attention to the level of enforcement motorists could face under the new system. Drivers are therefore expected to pay closer attention to traffic signs, observe speed limits and avoid dangerous practices that could put other road users at risk.
The initiative comes as authorities continue efforts to address indiscipline and improve safety on Ghanaian roads.
However, the long-term effectiveness of TraffiTech will depend on consistent implementation, public education and transparency in the enforcement process. Motorists will also need to understand the offences covered by the system and the procedures for addressing any tickets they receive.
With the official rollout underway, the MTTD is expected to continue using the technology as part of its broader efforts to promote responsible driving and reduce traffic violations across Ghana.
