Tim Iroegbunam Awaits FIFA Approval for Proposed Switch to Nigeria’s Super Eagles

According to a report by Afrik-Foot on Monday, November 2, 2026, Hull City midfielder Tim Iroegbunam is awaiting FIFA approval to complete his proposed switch from England to Nigeria.

The 23-year-old, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, previously represented England at youth international level but is now reportedly interested in representing the Super Eagles.

Afrik-Foot, citing an earlier report by OwnGoalNigeria, stated that Iroegbunam had submitted the necessary documents to FIFA and obtained a Nigerian passport as part of the process.

The midfielder’s decision reportedly followed discussions with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who has been looking to attract eligible players of Nigerian descent to strengthen the national team.

However, Iroegbunam is not expected to feature in Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania because his international switch has not yet received FIFA approval.

The former Everton player joined Hull City during the summer transfer window and has continued his development with the English club.

His potential availability would give Chelle another option in midfield, particularly as Nigeria look to improve the depth of their squad ahead of future international competitions.

For now, the midfielder must wait for FIFA to complete its review before he can officially represent the Super Eagles.
