Tension High After Wiper Leaders Threaten to Quit United Opposition Over Alleged Disrespect
Wiper Party leaders have threatened to pull out of the united opposition coalition, citing alleged disrespect from other partners in the alliance.
The warning comes at a time when the opposition is trying to build a common front ahead of the 2027 General Election to challenge President William Ruto.
In a statement that has now gone viral, the Wiper leaders said they feel sidelined and disrespected in key decision-making meetings within the coalition. They accused some of their coalition partners of making unilateral decisions without consulting Kalonzo Musyoka and his team.
According to the leaders, who addressed the press on Monday, November 3, 2026, they will not continue being part of a coalition where their party leader is not given the respect he deserves. They maintained that Kalonzo is a senior principal in the opposition and must be treated as such.
“We cannot stay in a coalition where we are being disrespected. If this continues, we have no option but to walk away,” one of the leaders said.
The leaders also dismissed speculation linking their frustrations to recent reports that Kalonzo would rather work with President Ruto than with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
They said their concerns are about internal respect and fairness, not about joining the government.
The threat to abandon the coalition exposes fresh cracks within the united opposition, which has been struggling to maintain unity among its diverse members. Political analysts say the divisions could weaken the opposition’s chances in 2027 if not addressed urgently.
By Monday evening, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was yet to issue a personal statement on the matter, but his allies insist they are speaking on behalf of the party.
The other opposition principals are expected to convene a meeting this week to resolve the standoff and prevent a fallout.
