SASSA Announces Adjusted November 2026 Grant Payment Dates Ahead of Local Elections

SASSA Announces Adjusted November 2026 Grant Payment Dates Ahead of Local Elections

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a temporary adjustment to its November 2026 social grant payment schedule ahead of the upcoming local government elections. Under the revised arrangement, payments will start on 30 October, with beneficiaries receiving their grants on different dates depending on the category.

According to the updated payment timetable, Older Persons Grant beneficiaries will receive their money on Friday, 30 October 2026. Disability Grant payments are scheduled for Monday, 2 November, while recipients of the Children’s Grant will be paid on Tuesday, 3 November.

Meanwhile, Thursday, 5 November, has been set aside for beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing reviews, provided they continue to meet the required eligibility conditions.

SASSA explained that the temporary adjustment is related to the local government elections scheduled for 4 November. The revised arrangement was reportedly approved by National Treasury following consultations intended to minimise possible disruptions during the election period.

The agency has emphasised that the changes apply only to November 2026 and do not represent a permanent adjustment to its payment system. The normal payment arrangements are expected to resume from December 2026 and remain unchanged until March 2027.

Beneficiaries have also been reminded that they do not have to withdraw their money immediately after it becomes available. Those receiving grants directly into their bank accounts can leave the funds there until they need them. Recipients collecting through retail outlets should ensure their SASSA cards and accounts remain active and follow the relevant payment instructions.

People whose grants are under review have been encouraged to monitor official SASSA announcements and submit any additional documents or information requested by the agency. Some beneficiaries may also be required to attend appointments as part of the verification process. Failure to comply with these requirements could affect their payments.

Anyone who does not receive their grant on the expected date should first check their payment status before contacting SASSA through its official communication channels or visiting a nearby office for assistance.

The agency has also clarified that the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant follows a separate payment arrangement. It is not included in the November schedule covering older persons, disability and children’s grants. SRD applicants must continue using the official SASSA website to check their application results and payment information.

Furthermore, beneficiaries have been warned against believing unverified social media messages about grant payments. SASSA has reminded recipients never to disclose their identity numbers, banking information or one-time passwords to individuals claiming they can speed up payments.

Grant recipients are also encouraged to keep their contact details updated to avoid missing important notifications about their benefits.

For assistance and enquiries, beneficiaries can contact SASSA through its toll-free helpline on 0800 60 10 11.

Recipients are advised to verify payment dates through official SASSA channels before travelling to collect their money or making financial decisions based on the announced schedule.
