Sad News Hits Ghana Again as 24-Year-Old Ghanaian in the Bronx Is Reportedly Found Dead at Dumpsite

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2026, the Ghanaian community in the Bronx, New York, is mourning again after the reported death of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu, whose body was allegedly found at a dumpsite roughly two weeks after he was reported missing.

According to a social media post by UglyGod on November 3, 2026, a scrap collector came across the body among refuse. The post did not say how Mr Owusu died or what led to his disappearance. No official statement from the authorities had been cited at the time of publication.

Mr Owusu was a member of the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx, where he served as an organist. Those who knew him say his music and warm manner were a source of comfort to the congregation.

A tribute shared online by Stiry Bee described him as a caring young man who left a lasting impression on those around him. It spoke of his kindness and his readiness to support others, whether “through a thoughtful word, a listening ear, or simply being present when someone needed him.” He is said to have found joy in time with family and friends, and in pursuing the dreams he held for his future.

The tribute added that as loved ones reflect on his life, the ordinary moments they shared may take on new meaning, and that his absence is deeply felt.

His death comes only days after Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong was shot dead on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the same borough. Together, the two losses have deepened the grief within the Ghanaian community in New York.

The online post described Mr Owusu as a cherished member of his church and extended prayers to his family, congregation and loved ones. The circumstances of his disappearance and death remain unclear, and details are expected to emerge as the family and authorities provide further information.
