SA Star Who Reportedly Rejected Chiefs In 2024 Arrives At Naturena To Beg For Forgiveness
Kaizer Chiefs Reopen Transfer Door For Elias Mokwana As Bafana Winger Moves Closer To Naturena
Naturena – Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly close to completing a move for Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, with the Soweto giants working to finalise the remaining details of a potential transfer this week.
The 27-year-old attacker has emerged as a major target for Amakhosi as head coach Fernando Da Cruz looks to strengthen his attacking department ahead of the challenges facing the club in the 2026/27 campaign.
According to SABC Sport, Chiefs have already agreed personal terms with Mokwana, who is expected to undergo a medical examination before the deal can be completed. However, some finer details still need to be resolved before the club can officially confirm his arrival.
The possible signing has generated excitement among Chiefs supporters, particularly because Mokwana was previously linked with a move to Naturena before choosing a different destination.
Amakhosi were reportedly interested in securing Mokwana’s services two years ago when he was still playing for Sekhukhune United.
However, the winger eventually opted for a move abroad, joining Tunisian giants Espérance de Tunis in August 2024 in a transfer reportedly worth approximately R7 million.
His decision meant that Chiefs missed out on an opportunity to bring one of South African football’s exciting attacking talents to Naturena at the time.
Now, circumstances have created another opportunity for the club to secure his signature.
Mokwana became a free agent in September 2026 after parting ways with Espérance. His departure followed a loan spell with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem, where he gained further experience in international football.
A proposed move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club reportedly failed to materialise because of registration complications, leaving the player to reconsider his next career move.
He subsequently returned to his home province of Mpumalanga while assessing his options before Chiefs renewed their interest.
The winger is known for his pace, direct running and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations. His versatility also allows him to operate in different attacking positions, giving the technical team more options when selecting its frontline.
Chiefs have been working to improve their attacking performances, and adding a player with Mokwana’s experience could increase competition within the squad.
His international experience with Bafana Bafana could also prove valuable, particularly as Amakhosi aim to build a team capable of challenging for major honours.
The potential transfer represents an interesting development in Mokwana’s career.
After choosing Tunisia instead of Chiefs in 2024, the winger could now finally get the opportunity to wear the famous gold and black jersey.
For Amakhosi supporters, his arrival would represent another attacking reinforcement as the club continues its rebuilding process under Da Cruz.
