RIP: Sad News as Conjestina Achieng Dies Hours After Beginning Her KCSE Exam
A family in Kanyaliech village, Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County, has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of their 17-year-old daughter, Conjestina Achieng, who passed away shortly after sitting her first two Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers.
Achieng, a Form Four candidate at Alaru Central Mixed Secondary School, reportedly developed breathing difficulties after experiencing chest pains on Monday, November 2, the first day of the national examinations. Her mother, Pamela Atieno, said the morning had started normally as the family prepared the teenager for her first examination papers. Her brother in law later took her to school, where she completed the two papers.
However, the family received heartbreaking news later in the day when the school’s deputy headteacher called and informed them that Achieng needed medical attention.
Atieno said they quickly arranged for someone to collect her daughter from school and take her to hospital.
They rushed her to a nearby private medical facility, hoping she would receive treatment. Sadly, the teenager passed away before healthcare workers could begin attending to her.The grieving mother described Achieng as a loving daughter whose death had left an enormous gap in their family.
She revealed that the teenager was her only daughter among three children, with two boys. She added that she would greatly miss her daughter’s cheerful personality and presence at home.
Achieng’s father disclosed that his daughter had been experiencing chest pains even before the examinations began. He said he had bought medication for her and noticed that her condition had improved before the tragic incident.
He further revealed that Achieng was passionate about her education and had big plans for her future. The teenager dreamed of becoming a lawyer and hoped to use her career to improve her family’s living conditions.
Meanwhile, her class teacher, Austin Ochina, remembered her as a calm, respectful, and disciplined student who rarely got into trouble.
Ochina said teachers contacted her family after she complained of chest pains while at school. He added that Achieng had maintained good behavior throughout her four years at the institution and had never been punished since joining Form One.
Her sudden death has left her family, teachers, and fellow students devastated, especially because she passed away at the beginning of the examinations she had worked hard to prepare for.
