City Power is mourning the death of its Acting Senior Manager for Strategic Communications and Perception Management, Portia Motsepe, who has passed away following a short illness.

The organisation announced her passing with sadness, describing her as a dedicated and highly respected professional whose contributions played an important role in strengthening its corporate communications and public image.

Motsepe, a former journalist, joined City Power in 2024 after serving within the City of Johannesburg’s Group Communication department. During her time at the organisation, she made significant contributions to its communication strategy, digital presence and overall brand positioning.

Her work helped strengthen how City Power communicated with stakeholders and the broader public, particularly in an environment where effective communication and public perception remain essential to the organisation’s operations.

City Power acknowledged the impact of her leadership, professional expertise and commitment, noting that her contribution would leave a lasting mark on the institution.

“She made a significant contribution to the organisation, particularly in strengthening its communications, digital presence and brand positioning,” the organisation said.

Her passing represents a loss for City Power and colleagues who had the opportunity to work alongside her. Having transitioned from journalism into corporate communications, Motsepe brought valuable professional experience to her role, helping shape the organisation’s communication efforts.

Although her time at City Power began in 2024, the organisation has recognised the meaningful difference she made during her tenure.
