Ramaphosa and Motsepe to Cast Their Votes at Hyde Park High School on Wednesday

President Cyril Ramaphosa and First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe will cast their votes at Hyde Park High School in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The couple will arrive at the voting station at 10:00. The school is located at 107 3rd Road in Hyde Park, Sandton. Media will be allowed to set up from 09:00.

Wednesday, 4 November 2026, is a public holiday across the country. President Ramaphosa declared the day a holiday under the Public Holidays Act. He wants all registered voters to use the free day to cast their ballots in the local government elections.

These elections decide who will serve as councillors in wards, municipalities and metros. The winners will be responsible for basic services such as water, electricity, roads and refuse removal in communities.

This is the first time since becoming president that Ramaphosa will vote at Hyde Park High School. For years he has cast his ballot at Hitekani Primary School in Chiawelo, Soweto, close to the home where he grew up. He voted there in the 2019 and 2024 national elections as well as the 2021 local elections.

For local government elections, voters must cast their ballots at the station where they are registered. The change shows that the president has updated his registration to the Hyde Park area.

The Presidency has called on every registered voter to take part. Officials say the election gives people a chance to choose the local leaders who will shape service delivery where they live. Special voting has already taken place on Monday and Tuesday for those who applied.

Voters are reminded that they can only vote at the station where they are registered. They cannot move their vote to another area on the day.

Polling stations will open from 07:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday. The Electoral Commission of South Africa has urged citizens to check their registration details and bring their ID documents.

The announcement comes as political parties wrap up their final campaigns. The focus remains on getting as many people as possible to the polls after the public holiday was declared to make voting easier for workers and families.
