Over 300 Filing Stations, Factories Adopting 24-Hour Economy Policy – Agalga

According to a report by Citi FM today being Tuesday, November 3, 2026, more than 300 filling stations and several factories across Ghana are reportedly adopting the government’s 24-hour economy policy, according to the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi Agalga.

The development is being viewed as an indication of growing interest among businesses in the policy, which seeks to encourage commercial and industrial activities beyond the traditional working hours.

The 24-hour economy initiative is one of the major economic programmes introduced by the government to stimulate productivity, create employment opportunities and expand business operations across different sectors. Through the policy, businesses are encouraged to operate in multiple shifts, allowing them to provide services and produce goods during both daytime and nighttime periods.

The reported decision by more than 300 filling stations to adopt the initiative is particularly significant because fuel stations provide essential services to motorists, transport operators and other businesses. Their extended operations could improve access to fuel and support economic activities that continue beyond regular business hours.

Similarly, the participation of factories is expected to contribute to increased industrial production if the businesses successfully implement round-the-clock operations. Operating for longer hours could allow manufacturers to improve production capacity, maximise the use of machinery and potentially create additional employment opportunities.

The government’s 24-hour economy policy is also aimed at addressing unemployment by encouraging businesses to recruit more workers to support operations across different shifts. This could create opportunities for young people seeking jobs while strengthening the country’s productive sectors.

However, the successful implementation of the programme will depend on several factors, including reliable electricity supply, adequate security, efficient transportation systems and the willingness of businesses to invest in additional operational costs.

The involvement of filling stations and factories represents an important development in the government’s efforts to promote the policy.

As more businesses consider adopting the initiative, attention will remain on how effectively the programme can translate into increased productivity, job creation and sustainable economic growth for Ghana.
