Ohene Kwame Frimpong’s Extradition Hearing Scheduled for November 18

Ohene Kwame Frimpong’s Extradition Hearing Scheduled for November 18

The extradition hearing involving the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has been scheduled for November 18, 2026, before a court in the Netherlands, according to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor.

The disclosure comes as the Ghanaian legislator remains in custody in Amsterdam after two attempts by his legal team to secure his release on bail proved unsuccessful.

Speaking at a parliamentary leaders’ media briefing on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Dafeamekpor confirmed that the MP was still being held by Dutch authorities and that preparations were underway for the substantive extradition proceedings.

He indicated that the Majority Caucus had made efforts to secure bail for the lawmaker on two occasions but had not been successful.

“We’ve failed to secure bail for Asante Akyem North MP; so, he is still in Amsterdam in custody. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the extradition hearing will begin on 18th November, 2026,” Dafeamekpor said.

He also dismissed reports suggesting that the MP had already been taken to the United States, clarifying that he remained in the Netherlands.

Mr Frimpong was arrested at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in May 2026 after travelling from Ghana. His detention was subsequently confirmed by Parliament, which indicated that it was engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain further information about the matter.

The case is linked to allegations involving romance scams and money laundering. However, the allegations remain subject to legal proceedings and should not be treated as proof of guilt.

The two unsuccessful bail applications, comprising an initial application and an appeal, have kept the legislator in custody while preparations continue for the extradition hearing.

The November 18 hearing is expected to consider the extradition proceedings and determine the next steps in the case. Its outcome could have significant implications for the MP and his continued legal process in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Dafeamekpor’s latest disclosure provides an update on the situation as Parliament and the MP’s legal representatives continue to follow developments surrounding his detention.

The case has attracted public attention in Ghana, particularly because of the MP’s position in Parliament and the international nature of the legal proceedings.
