Kisii Leaders React at Gachagua Over Remarks Against Matiangi”Your Record Can’t Match His Legacy”

A fierce political storm has erupted across the Gusii region as local leaders have hit back aggressively at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his sharp verbal assault on former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

According to public statements published by South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka on Facebook, elected officials from both government and opposition factions have joined forces to defend Matiang’i’s public service legacy.

The swift backlash has followed Gachagua’s contentious remarks in Nyeri, where he has publicly dismissed Matiang’i and Justin Muturi as “lazy” opposition partners and “busybodies” lacking grassroots support.

Rejecting those characterizations, Senator Onyonka has declared that Matiang’i has maintained an indisputable record in service delivery, asserting that no amount of political rhetoric can erase his legacy from the minds of Kenyans.

Onyonka has emphasized that Matiang’i has consistently set the standard for administrative competence across the nation.

Concurrently, MP Silvanus Osoro has issued a joint statement signed by Gusii lawmakers, asserting that Gachagua has remained the absolute last person qualified to lecture Matiang’i on governance or track records.

Challenging Gachagua to pit his achievements directly against Matiang’i’s transformative work in the Ministries of ICT, Education, and Interior, Osoro has noted that the difference between their public records has remained clear as day and night.

Osoro has added a blunt reminder regarding Gachagua’s own political history, pointing out that his primary legacy has centered on impeachment rather than tangible public development.

Warning Gachagua against issuing further personal attacks, the Gusii leadership has made it clear that while open political competition has always been welcome, insults targeted at their son will meet firm resistance.

This unified defense has signaled a growing regional stance against coalition bullying, further complicating Gachagua’s efforts to dominate opposition strategy as the race for the 2027 presidential ticket intensifies.
